That day&#8217;s 4-hour show was a\u00a0 special called &#8220;Mayberry on the Air,&#8221; which celebrated the 60th Anniversary of TAGS.<\/p>\n<p>The show featured TAGS stars in old radio shows, including <strong>Don Knotts<\/strong>, <strong>Betty Lynn<\/strong>, <strong>Howard McNear<\/strong> (Floyd the Barber), <strong>Parley Baer<\/strong> (Mayor Stoner), <strong>Olan Soule<\/strong> (John Masters), <strong>Sheldon Leonard<\/strong> (executive producer), along with songs and monologues by <strong>Andy Griffith<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3105 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/tagsrwc.com\/the_ebullet\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/MaggieCherryBlossom-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>Maggie Peterson Mancuso<\/strong> (Charlene Darling) continues her &#8220;patient&#8221; recovery from recent surgeries. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/maggie-quotcharlene-darlingquot-peterson-needs-help?utm_source=facebook&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet&amp;fbclid=IwAR0p-yGFoSsZJZPMuoCvrianOfSiZVipY7uzCMwfRPIOWAtlsULQtV3r5lg\">Maggie&#8217;s GoFundMe page<\/a>, <\/strong>which Maggie&#8217;s family has set up to help with some of Maggie&#8217;s significant and uncovered medical expenses, is still active. Maggie has expressed her deep appreciation for all of the kind donations received thus far. They have truly been a blessing for Mayberry&#8217;s &#8220;Darling person.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rodney Dillard<\/strong> (the guitar-playing Darling boy) hasn&#8217;t been able to be on the road this year, but that hasn&#8217;t stopped his new Dillards album, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weaversdepartmentstore.com\/catalog.php?item=580\"><strong><em>Old Road New Again<\/em><\/strong><\/a> from tearing up the Bluegrass charts since its digital release in August and CD release in September. (And yes, Weaver&#8217;s is proud to carry the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weaversdepartmentstore.com\/catalog.php?item=580\">CD on our shelves<\/a>!)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Elizabeth MacRae<\/strong> (one TAGS episode and Lou Ann Poovie on &#8220;Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.&#8221; and <strong>Ronnie Schell<\/strong> (two TAGS episodes and Duke Slater on &#8220;Gomer Pyle&#8221;) recently reconnected by phone. Both have been doing their best to stay safe during the pandemic. Here&#8217;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityviewnc.com\/elizabeth-macrae\/\">link to a nice story about their telephone reunion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re very sad to report that <strong>Jenny Berry<\/strong>, daughter or <strong>Jackie Joseph-Lawrence<\/strong> (Mayberry&#8217;s Sweet Romeena) and the late <strong>Ken Berry<\/strong> (Sam Jones), died of natural causes on September 21, at age 55. Most union actors and crew aren&#8217;t able to participate in the film, which meant that lead actor <strong>Richard Gunn<\/strong> (son of <strong>Laura Hagen<\/strong>, widow of TAGS maestro <strong>Earle Hagen<\/strong>) was among those who had to withdraw from the project. Shakedown!&#8221; chapter (Laurinburg, N.C.).
