The <\/strong>12th (Almost) Annual Mayberry Squad Car Nationals <\/strong>is relocating to Pelham, Ala.\u00a0 Officials with MASCAR (Mayberry Authentic Squad Cars and Racing) apparently received pressure from a worried NASCAR that Talladega Superspeedway felt threatened by the new closer location of the prestigious Mayberry Squad Car Nationals and therefore\u00a0pleaded for\u00a0more time to brace for the competition from the vintage patrol car crowd-pleasers.\u00a0 At least that’s the rumor we’re trying to get started (just like Joel Laird’s squad car).\u00a0 Stay tuned for details about exactly when and where the Nationals will roar next spring.<\/p>\n

Andy Griffith<\/strong> is happy to see spring blooming out around his coastal home in\u00a0his beloved North Carolina.<\/p>\n

Ron Howard<\/strong> is now in England filming Rush<\/em>, his film about 1970s Formula 1 rivals Niki Lauda and James Hunt.\u00a0 It’s expected for release in 2013.<\/p>\n

This is a photo of Ron and wife Cheryl that he Tweeted from a roller derby match in March while filming Rush. You can follow Ron on Twitter @RealRonHoward.<\/p><\/div>\n

Things are also reportedly looking promising for a deal with Warner Bros. for Ron’s dream project of producing and directing\u00a0 film and TV adaptations of Stephen King’s The Dark Towers.\u00a0<\/em>And plans by Ron’s Imagine Entertainment for\u00a0bringing an Arrested Development <\/em>feature film to Netflix and maybe theaters are also progressing well.\u00a0 Imagine is also developing an adaption or George Orwell’s 1984<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Our\u00a0good thoughts remain with George\u00a0Lindsey<\/strong>\u00a0as he continues to do his best to heal\u00a0from a month-long illness in\u00a0Nashville.<\/p>\n

George’s fellow Nashvillian and Mayberrian Doug Dillard<\/strong> (the Darling banjo player extraordinire) is\u00a0recovering well and getting stronger every day as he\u00a0deals with his own month-long\u00a0health setback.\u00a0He thanks friends and fans for their many\u00a0good wishes and prayers.<\/p>\n

Betty Lynn<\/strong> is among the guests at the Triad\u00a0Tribute to the Troops,\u00a0a USO fundraiser\u00a0in Greensboro, N.C., this month. (Betty traveled with the USO to some of the most dangerous and far-reaching\u00a0combat zones during WWII.)<\/p>\n

James Best <\/strong>will be in Romania in May to film a movie for Hallmark.\u00a0 It’s being produced by his daughter Janeen and her husband, Michael Damian.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, look for James in Return of the Killer Shrews<\/em> in theaters this summer.\u00a0 You can scream, but you can\u2019t\u00a0\u00a0hide!\u00a0\u00a0Cringe\u00a0for more info soon.<\/p>\n

Here’s a link to a story and video of actress Peggy McCay<\/strong> rapping<\/a>\u00a0at an\u00a0animal\u00a0rescue fundraiser in Nashville in early March.\u00a0Peggy (Andy’s high school sweetheart Sharon DeSpain in the “Class Reunion” episode)\u00a0does a rap about\u00a0Caroline Brady (her “Days of Our Lives” character for the last three decades). Ernest T. Bass ain’t got nuthin’ on the rhymin’ of this lady who left Mayberry to be a “big fish in a big pond.”<\/p>\n

Maggie Peterson<\/strong>, Rodney Dillard<\/strong> and LeRoy “Mack” McNees <\/strong>headlined the Mayberry Comes to Westminster festival in Westminster, S.C., Apr. 20 and 21.\u00a0 Big crowds once again turned out for this second annual festival, which also featured a full slate of the popular Mayberry tribute artists.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

New iMayberry Community<\/strong>
\nWe’re really excited to announce the launch this year of a wonderful Web activity hosted by TAGSRWC and organized and overseen by webmaster Allan “Floyd” Newsome<\/strong>.\u00a0 It’s called iMayberry Community<\/strong>.\u00a0 You can check it out and sign up for free at: http:\/\/imayberrycommunity.com\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n
