  1. I was shocked to read your article about season 4, episode 11, “Citizen’s Arrest”. If you understood southerners you should know that Andy does NOT say “real flying cloud”! He simply says “REO Flying Cloud”. It may sound to you like he said “real flying cloud” but most of us know better and never even considered he said it like you say he did. I remember asking my Daddy when this first aired what a REO Flying Cloud was and he told me it was a car. And explained to me about the muffler. It never dawned on me there were people out there who didn’t know what he actually said. I’m very disappointed in you. If you aren’t sure what they say ask a southerner but don’t make such terrible mistakes. It’s very disappointing. If you don’t know what they are saying please check before you make such mistakes.

    • Well, since I’m from Alabama and have lived here my entire life…. I don’t feel like I need to ask a southerner. You are, of course, correct that he did say REO and not “real.” I think I misheard it because I was looking at a transcript that had written it as ‘real’ so when I listened, that was what I heard.

    • Having met him on numerous occasions I can definitely say that just because someone is from Alabama (Huntsville is as citified as Alabama comes) does not make them a southerner if he actually was, at his age he should definitely have known what that was or at the very least do thorough research

      • Actually being born and raised in Alabama would make him a Southerner.Geographically speaking. It’s sad people get so upset over stuff like this lol.

        • Thinking geography has anything to do with being a southerner explains that you don’t get it ??????
I agree it’s nothing to get your panties in a wad over yet I’m not a fan of disseminating incorrect information either

      • Wow Jeremy,

I didn’t realize you need a membership card to be a “Southerner.” I didn’t grow up in Huntsville. I grew up in a small town called Henagar, AL with somewhere around 3,500 people. I went to Sylvania High School, a 3A school in the 1980’s. I worked in potato sheds, hauled hay, lived in 40 acres of woods, and lived on a dirt road. Do I qualify as a “southerner” and where can I get my card. 🙂

I already said that I was incorrect. That Andy did say REO (according to the actual script that I didn’t have access to) and not “real” as the transcript incorrectly says. I think I misheard it because I was looking at a transcript that had written it as ‘real’ so when I listened, that was what I heard.

This will all be pointed out and corrected in the next issue of Weaver’s Newsletter as well as on my podcast next week since I only found out my error when Paul Mulik provided me the page from the actual script on Tuesday Dec 3, 2025 after I talked about this topic on episode #867 (this week’s show) of the Two Chairs No Waiting Podcast.

      • Bless your heart, to say Allan isn’t a Southerner, or myself (I proofed the newsletter.) I didn’t know what a REO Flying Cloud was either. I grew up in a small town in North Alabama on a dairy farm. I moved to Huntsville when I was 18 to go to college and have lived here since. I’ve NEVER had to defend the fact that I was Southerner, nor has he, that’s laughable. He does do his research AND when he’s wrong he corrects the misinformation. He really doesn’t like it when he gets something wrong. He got the information from the transcript. He thought that information was correct, AND when he watched the episode “REAL” is what he heard. Now that it’s been pointed out that it’s incorrect and he got the correct printing of the script and relistened to the episode he heard “REO” as well as looked into the rest of the story. So, before you judge our Southern card, maybe you should do a little research. He’s worked for over 30 years to only try his best to promote TAGS as best he could with all the facts, he’s only human. He’s built websites, podcasts, newsletters, promoted and attended events, and all kind of other things to help keep Mayberry alive. I suppose I should have sucked it up buttercup but this wife’s feathers were ruffled.

  2. I’ve been reading the comments regarding the comment I made this morning about the whole REO Flying Cloud conversation on TAGS. I could’ve worded it a little better. I apologize Allan, if I offended you. That was not my intention. i do appreciate all you do to keep our beloved show and it’s legacy going. In the spirit of Andy and Barney…friends?
