Welcome to the Weaver’s Newsletter Sep/Oct 2025!
The entire Weaver’s Newsletter staff (okay, that’s just Jan and myself) just returned from the 36th Annual Mayberry Days in Mount Airy, N.C. and it was an amazing event, as always. We had a wonderful time meeting with old and meeting new friends who all love The Andy Griffith Show. There was a very large number of first time attendees to Mayberry Days this year showing the continuing growth in the Mayberry fanbase. Many of the first timers mentioned they learned about the existence of Mayberry Days by watching the Mayberry Man movie/series and/or The Mayberry Effect documentary. It is so good to see people consuming these new options and them drawing fans to the original.
We’ll give more details about Mayberry Days later in the Newsletter but we need to mention that this is a “five” year. By that I mean October 3, 2025 marks the 65th anniversary of the original air date of The Andy Griffith Show. Can you remember, or imagine, watching Andy and Opie walking down that path for the very first time and not knowing that 65 years later thousands of people would be attending events yearly to celebrate, like Ed Sawyer, their “hometown.” Not to mention the millions of viewers who continue to tune in and watch our friends who live in Mayberry. Fans can literally watch The Andy Griffith Show streaming to their TVs, tablets, computers, or phones anytime they choose to watch. Pluto.tv streaming even has an entire channel dedicated to The Andy Griffith Show that is free to watch.
Believe it or not, the Christmas season is just around the corner. You’ll want to browse around WeaversDepartmentStore.com and get your gifts heading your way to be sure things arrive on time. It’s never too early to do your shopping in order to make sure things are in stock. “Snap to it!” – Aunt Bee
We have a lot of Mayberry related fun and information to share with you. Thank you for being here and supporting us here at Weaver’s.
2026 Mayberry Wall Calendar – $17
Weaver’s is very happy to bring fans the Mayberry calendar for 2026!
There have been wall calendars for The Andy Griffith Show for many years and all of us have enjoyed them. Sadly, the licensee who made those calendars decided to stop making them after 2024. Thankfully for fans, Mr. Weaver wanted to ensure the yearly fun continued.
Weaver’s reached out to artist Christina Green and asked if she might be able to create artwork related to our hometown and the result is a sight to behold. Last year, our calendar sold out! Fans loved the beautiful Mayberry scenes Christina created. She’s done it again for our 2026 calendar. The monthly calendar images are ALL NEW
Plan your year in Mayberry! Start each month features a different scene from our home town done in a watercolor art style.

**** 65 Years of The Andy Griffith Show ****
I know those reading this newsletter love The Andy Griffith Show but it’s nice that even more casual fans watch and laugh along. What is it that keeps all these folks watching a show that started 65 years ago? That is what we shall try to find out.
Why is The Andy Griffith Show still viewed by millions each day almost 65 years after it premiered on October 3, 1960?
That’s a great question — and one that fans, TV historians, and cultural critics have often asked. The Andy Griffith Show remains one of the most enduringly popular series in television history, even nearly 65 years after its debut (October 3, 1960). A few key reasons explain why it’s still watched by millions daily:
Timeless Themes
The show taps into universal human experiences: friendship, family, honesty, love, forgiveness, and community. These values don’t expire, so modern audiences still connect with the lessons and warmth of Mayberry life.
Nostalgia and Comfort
Even for those who didn’t grow up in the 1960s, the show evokes a “simpler time.” Its slow pace, gentle humor, and small-town setting provide comfort in a fast-moving, complex world. Watching Mayberry feels like returning home. The portrayal of small-town life, with minimal technology and strong community bonds, resonates with viewers seeking an escape from modern complexities.
Wholesome Entertainment
Unlike much of today’s media, the show is clean, family-friendly, and multi-generational. Parents and grandparents can introduce it to children without concern, creating shared viewing traditions.
Outstanding Characters and Acting
Andy Taylor’s calm wisdom, Barney Fife’s comic brilliance, Opie’s innocence, and Aunt Bee’s nurturing presence all remain iconic. Don Knotts’s Emmy-winning performance as Barney continues to be hailed as one of TV’s greatest comedic achievements.
Timeless Humor
The comedy is character-driven rather than topical, so it doesn’t feel dated. Barney fumbling with his one bullet, Gomer yelling “Shazam!,” or Floyd rambling in the barbershop — these moments still spark laughter decades later. The show balances gentle humor with heartfelt moments, making it accessible to all ages. Its clean, family-friendly comedy avoids dated or offensive tropes, ensuring broad appeal.
Syndication and Accessibility
The show has never left the airwaves. Reruns began as “Andy of Mayberry” in syndication while the series was still airing, and networks like TBS, TV Land, MeTV, and many streaming platforms keep it in constant rotation. Its availability ensures every generation has access.
Symbol of Americana
Mayberry has become a cultural shorthand for an idealized small-town America. For many, it represents values they either remember or wish existed — neighborliness, decency, and community spirit. The Andy Griffith Show offers straightforward stories with clear resolutions, often ending with a moral lesson. This simplicity is comforting in an era of divisive content.
Cultural Legacy
From statues of Andy and Opie, to Mayberry Days in Mount Airy, NC, to countless references in modern shows, The Andy Griffith Show has moved beyond TV into American folklore. Watching it feels like participating in that shared cultural memory. Mayberry has become a cultural touchstone, symbolizing an idealized America. References in pop culture and parodies keep it relevant.
Top put simply: The Andy Griffith Show endures because it offers what people crave most — laughter, kindness, and a reminder of human goodness. It isn’t just television; it’s comfort food for the soul.
The exact daily viewership numbers are hard to determine because of the various streaming and broadcast channels that air the show. Here are some facts that show the popularity over the years.
The Andy Griffith Show consistently placed in the top ten during its run.
Season | Time | Rank | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
1) 1960–61 | Monday at 9:30-10:00 PM | #4 | 27.8 |
2) 1961–62 | #7 | 27.0 | |
3) 1962–63 | #6 | 29.7 | |
4) 1963–64 | #5 | 29.4 | |
5) 1964–65 | Monday at 8:30-9:00 PM | #4 | 28.3 |
6) 1965–66 | Monday at 9:00-9:30 PM | #6 | 26.9 |
7) 1966–67 | #3 | 27.4 | |
8) 1967–68 | #1 | 27.6 |
Jumping to 1998, the show’s reruns were watched by more than five million people per day on approximately 120 TV stations across the nation.
In 2016, it still had strong streaming/TV viewing: according to MeTV, one measure placed it as the 60th most-watched show that year, with 36.9 billion minutes of viewing time.
Nielsen reported that in 2020, The Andy Griffith Show was watched for about 58 billion minutes in the U.S. That was a 29% increase over 2019’s viewing minutes.
I couldn’t find reliable, recent statistics that verify current daily viewership numbers but I think we can see that The Andy Griffith Show has remained a favorite for viewers and advertisers for 65 years. The timeless humor and feeling of family has been a tonic for the realities of life. Providing laughs and comfort as we move forward.
Thank you, Andy Griffith and all those who worked to make Mayberry, “our hometown.”

Messages from Mayberry – $15-$18
“A Visit to Mayberry is almost like going to church.”
Pastor Ronald “Dee” Vaughan often receives that feedback from members of the congregations he’s serves when he uses Mayberry moments as a sermon illustration or leads a Bible study based on his favorite episodes. Seeing so many connections between Mayberry life and the Christian life, Pastor Vaughan has undertaken the task of discovering and describing a Christian life lesson in each episode of TAGS.
He has written three books that fans of The Andy Griffith Show can use to learn Biblical lessons from the show we all love. Messages from Mayberry was his first and it was followed by The Gospel According to Andy, Volume 1. His latest offering is The Gospel According to Andy, Volume 2. All three are sure to add to your experience when watching the good folks in Mayberry.
Mayberry Scented Candles – $16
Weaver’s found these candles that each have the power to bring to mind memories of Mayberry by the scent
Floyd’s Barbershop scent is something we’re sure Clarabelle Morrison would love to have in her home. It will make you feel like you’re visiting your friends over at Floyd’s Barbershop while waiting on him.
Taylor’s Front Porch scent is like spending time together on the Taylor’s front porch with Andy, Opie, Aunt Bee, and Barney watching the traffic pass by.
Old Man Kelsey’s Woods and Old Man Kelsey’s Ocean have scents that Ernest T. would be sure to recognize. Old man Kelsey’s woods has a rugged, warm, and timeless scent while Old man Kelsey’s ocean has the clean smell from the water, even if it was actually only old man Kelsey’s creek.

Remembering David Ketchum (1928–2025)
David Ketchum (February 4, 1928 – August 10, 2025) was an American actor, comedian, and writer whose career spanned from the early 1960s through the 1980s. Known for his jittery delivery, nervous charm, and fast-talking humor, he became one of television’s reliable character actors, leaving a mark both in front of and behind the camera.
He made two guest appearances on The Andy Griffith Show in 1967 as two different characters only two months apart.
- “Goober the Executive” (S8, Ep16 — aired Dec 25, 1967): Ketchum is credited as Fred Michaels in the episode where Goober buys the gas station.
- “Floyd’s Barbershop” (S7, Ep22 — aired Feb 13, 1967): Ketchum is credited as Harry Walker in this episode about Floyd considering giving up his barbershop.
Acting Career
Ketchum was especially well remembered for his recurring role as the unlucky Agent 13 on the hit spy spoof Get Smart (1965–1970). Perpetually stationed in phone booths, mailboxes, and other uncomfortable hiding spots, Agent 13 embodied the absurdity of secret-agent life and became a fan favorite. His physical humor and frazzled line delivery were perfectly suited for the series’ satirical tone.
He also made multiple guest appearances on classic sitcoms of the 1960s and 1970s, including:
- The Andy Griffith Show – Appeared in two late-series episodes: “Floyd’s Barbershop” (1967, as Harry Walker) and “Goober the Executive” (1967, as Fred Michaels).
- Hogan’s Heroes – Played several minor roles during the show’s run.
- Batman (Adam West series), Bewitched, The Flying Nun, That Girl, and Green Acres – Often cast as nervous clerks, jittery assistants, or talkative “little man” characters.
- The Doris Day Show and Love, American Style – Regular guest spots in the 1970s.
- Later appearances included guest roles in shows like Columbo.
Ketchum’s screen persona was consistent: he specialized in characters who were excitable, high-strung, and prone to comic exasperation — a style that made him instantly recognizable even in brief appearances.
Writing Career
Alongside acting, Ketchum had a successful career as a comedy writer. He contributed material to some of television’s most popular variety and sketch shows, including:
- Love, American Style
- The Carol Burnett Show
- The Red Skelton Hour
His writing often leaned into the same blend of sharp timing and quirky character humor that he brought to his acting.
Career Impact & Legacy
While never a household name in the leading-man sense, David Ketchum became one of those “familiar faces” of 1960s and 1970s television — the kind of performer audiences might not always know by name but instantly recognized for his comic energy. His work on Get Smart in particular cemented him as a cult favorite, while his steady appearances across sitcoms and variety programs demonstrated his versatility.
Ketchum’s dual career as both performer and writer highlights the breadth of his contributions to mid-century American television comedy. His blend of nervous energy, quick wit, and behind-the-scenes creativity helped shape the texture of a golden era of TV entertainment.
Remembering Ron Friedman
Writer and producer Ron Friedman passed away on September 16, 2025, at the age of 93. His wife, Valeri, confirmed the news. According to Variety, Friedman died at the Motion Picture and Television Fund in Woodland Hills, with the cause listed as cardiopulmonary arrest following complications from a lower gastrointestinal infection.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Friedman studied architecture at Carnegie Mellon University before heading to Hollywood. Though he trained as an architect, he found his calling as a storyteller. Fans know him best for his work on some of the most iconic animated series of the ’80s, including G.I. Joe, The Transformers, Iron Man, and Fantastic Four. He also wrote The Transformers: The Movie in 1986, a project that cemented his place in animation history.
Friedman’s early break in Hollywood came through entertainer Danny Kaye, which opened doors for him in television. He cut his teeth writing for hit comedy-dramas such as Bewitched, The Andy Griffith Show, Gilligan’s Island, Happy Days, and The Fall Guy, before Hasbro tapped him to breathe new life into the G.I. Joe franchise. That opportunity launched him fully into the world of animation.
For fans of The Andy Griffith Show, Friedman’s touch can be found in two season 7 episodes—“Mind Over Matter” (Episode 7) and “Goober’s Contest” (Episode 30)—both co-written with his friend and writing partner, actor Pat McCormick (who passed away in 2005).

Any Old Tramps Down There Print – $35
Weaver’s is fortunate to get this great piece of artwork from illustrator Jeff Preston.
He originally created this piece for the Society of Illustrators yearly “Member’s Only” show, The theme that year was fear. We feel this image summed up the emotion perfectly.
This print takes it’s cues from Don Knotts’ movie “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken” as well as The Andy Griffith Show episode, “The Haunted House” so fans of both Don’s movies and Barney Fife will find a lot to enjoy.
13 x 19 inches beautifully printed on 100lb Acid Free gloss enamel card stock
The print is mailed in a tube, via USPS. Shipping takes longer to arrive. We’ve tried various ways to mail, no matter what we try, nothing seems to speed up the process. Neither does changing shipping services.
Old Man Remshaw Print – $12
Weaver’s was lucky enough to find this print of the very painting that hangs in the old Remshaw place in Mayberry.
As you look closely at the print, you will likely notice that the eyes seem to follow you when you move around the room…of course…it’s probably just the lighting.
The print is 16″x 20″ on heavy weight stock. The print will be shipped in an art tube to protect it during shipment.
The print includes the image of the original painting and the image of the frame (just as seen). For more information about Mr. Remshaw, visit this link but come back and get yourself a copy of the print before you go.

**** The Old Remshaw place!!! ****
NOTE: Weaver’s has published this article before but it’s been a couple of years so we thought it might be time for a reminder about these fun pumpkin patterns.
Old Man Remshaw has been busy fixing things up around his house and he has once again brought the jack-o-lantern patterns of some of our favorite Mayberry residents out of storage for you to download and use for yourself.
Mr. Remshaw found it in his heart to light the way to the old Remshaw place with pumpkins carved to look like our favorite Deputy, mechanic, barber and Andy’s favorite son. Remshaw saw this baseball hunting trespasser as he was looking onto this world from the world beyond through that haunted painting above the fireplace.
It sure does feel like those eyes are following you everywhere when you walk around Remshaw’s house. Also, be on the watch out for a floating axe Barney said he saw when he was there.
You can join old man Remshaw in leading folks to your home with the lovable face of Barney Fife shining the way from his Barn-O-Lantern.
Remshaw also has Floyd, Goober and Opie joining Barney with their own patterns .
Your house will be the envy of your neighborhood this Halloween, or anytime, when you carve this Barney Fife, Floyd the Barber, Goober Pyle, or Opie jack-o-lantern…or all FOUR!
You just need some carving tools and a printed out paper patterns. Take the printed pattern and tape it to the pumpkin. Using a straight pin, go around the outline of the pattern leaving a “connect the dots” pattern on the skin of the pumpkin that can guide you as your carve the pumpkin. There are videos on YouTube that could help you learn to carve the pumpkin, if you’re afraid to try it without more help.
These designs are not super easy, so if you are new to the pumpkin carving, it is strongly recommended that you try out one or two of the easier patterns before attempting one of these. They mainly just take time and patience and you’ll be able to do one yourself.
You may need to change the size of the design before you print it, depending on the size of the pumpkin you’re using the pattern upon. You can also print it first, and then change the size by enlarging or reducing it with a photocopier.
Happy carving! It takes some time but it comes out looking really good! They’ll each take you about an hour to carve the first time but you’ll get faster as you get the hang of it. Give it a try!!

Mayberry Days® 2025 – A Week in Mayberry
If you’ve ever wondered what it would feel like to step right into Mayberry, then Mount Airy, North Carolina gave us all the answer again this past September. From September 22–28, the little town that inspired The Andy Griffith Show was buzzing with laughter, music, parades, and the kind of fellowship that only comes when fans gather to celebrate the people and stories we all love.

The week was packed from start to finish. Old friends reunited, new friendships were made, and special guests brought plenty of smiles. We saw familiar faces like Rodney Dillard (guitar playing Darling boy), still pickin’ and grinnin’ as one of the Darling Boys, and Karen Knotts, who shared stories about her father Don. Margaret Kerry (Bess Muggins and Helen Scobey), Dennis Rush (Howie Pruitt/Williams), Keith Thibodeaux (Johnny Paul) , Margaret Teele (Agnes Jean Parker), and others helped remind us of the magic behind the show. Performers like Dan Roebuck (Cliff Lewis on Matlock), Bill Knotts (Nephew of Don Knotts) and groups such as The Embers and The Bellamy Brothers kept faces smiling and toes tapping throughout the week.
Other special guests included Peter Akerman (son of Elinor Donahue), Dreama Denver (Widow of Bob Denver a.k.a. Dud Wash #2), Andy Bullock, Courtney Bullock, and Kerry Bullock Scarvie (Children of TAGS Writer Harvey Bullock), Tracy Alexander (son of Jean Carson), Neal Brower (Professor Brower’s Lecture), and there were many others like Michael Hoover (Elvis) who have been fixtures at Mayberry Days for years.

We can’t list them all but the Mayberry Tribute artist who give of their time and resources to not only attend the event but who truly make Mount Airy turn into Mayberry in a surreal/dreamlike way for the week. When walking the sidewalks of Mayberry Days and spotting Goober, Otis, Charlene, Andy, Barney and the other of our Mayberry friends interacting with folks, it’s such an amazing experience.
The schedule was full of things that felt straight out of an episode: pie-eating contests, apple peeling, checkers, trivia, and even the “Ernest T. Bass Rock Throwing Contest.” Families enjoyed face painting, chalk art, and all the simple fun you’d expect in Mayberry. The annual parade down Main Street on Saturday was once again a centerpiece—squad cars, bands, tribute artists, and even the Darlings rolling along with Charlene singing as fans lined the sidewalks, waving like it was Founders’ Day in Mayberry. Even the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile joined in the parade fun and let me tell you, “It was BIG!”

Of course, no Mayberry Days® would be complete without the Emmett Golf Tournament, autograph sessions, guided tours of the Andy Griffith Playhouse, and a stop at the Andy Griffith Museum. The WBMUTBB auctions brought plenty of laughs (and a few bidding wars), with all proceeds going to the Surry Arts Council keep the tradition alive. This years auction (the 26th) broke a record raising $7,298 for future Mayberry Days®.
On Sunday morning, folks gathered for a chapel service lead by Neal Brower with Peter Ackerman also speaking a few words—always a touching reminder of the values that made Mayberry special.
This year’s festival once again drew thousands of fans from across the country (and rumor was even a few from overseas). For a week, Mount Airy wasn’t just a town—it was Mayberry itself. From the Blackmon Amphitheatre concerts to the porch-sitting chats on Main Street, there was a sense of community that felt timeless.
As Andy reminded us in the very first episode, “You’ve got to love your fellow man. Love them as yourself.” The Surry Arts Council and all the volunteers lived that out in full, and because of their work, we all got to experience a little piece of Mayberry magic once again. If you couldn’t make it this year, start planning now. Mayberry Days 2026 is already on the horizon and tickets are on sale, and there’s always room on the front porch for one more.

Barber Shop Shaving Kit
(Each sold separately)
The 11oz white enamel camp mug features the artwork of the Two Chairs No Waiting podcast. The mug features a caricature of the podcast’s host as “Floyd the barber” sitting in a barber chair and the phrase Two Chairs No Waiting. The camp mug is made of steel with a practical handle all coated with hard wearing enamel. It resists stains and scratches and is easy to clean (handwash only).
The barber soap will certainly bring to mind a visit to Floyd’s with it’s barber pole color scheme of red, white and blue. The smell will remind you of a barbershop and it’s all natural. You can, of course, use it as just plain old hand washing soap with a patriotic coloring.
The wooden handle brush will allow you to make shaving lather just like Floyd. A little barber soap and a mug with some warm water and this brush is exactly what you need.
You can also use it to mix up a lather for shaving that makes that nice “clep, clep, clep” sound the brush makes against the mug.
Weaver’s suggests that you use all three together but each works great on it’s own.

****News of Cast & Crew ****

Ron Howard (Opie) recently had two movies playing at the box office. Apollo 13 is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and was re-released in movie theaters from September 19-25. I’m sure Mayberry Days slowed down the ticket sales for the re-release but it still grossed over $600,000 across the weekend and almost matched his other “new” release, Eden, had on it’s opening weekend. Imagine Entertainment’s Spaceballs 2 is in development for Amazon/MGM, with Josh Gad pitching the idea to Mel Brooks, who will serve as a producer alongside Imagine’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.
Clint Howard (Leon) is remaining busy making the rounds of conventions, both horror and fan cons. Speaking of horror, pre-production is underway on a follow-up to the 1995 cult film Ice Cream Man that starred Clint. The best way to *try* and keep up with all Clint has going on is on his Instagram account.
Margaret Kerry (Bess Muggins and Helen Scobey) would make any of feel tired with all the activities she has going on. She just wrapped up her visit to Mayberry Days where fans were delighted to have photos with her and get her autograph. She also performed during Mayberry Days’ Col. Tim’s Talent Time show by doing a dance to close out her segment. At 96 years old, her energy and ability to be active is something to be respected. Her next trip is flying to Texas for the Dallas Fan Festival in Irving, Texas. The show is Saturday and Sunday, October 4-5. Margaret provided a link to the show for more details if you have the energy to keep up with her. https://fanexpohq.com/dallasfanfestival/all-guests/ You can keep up with all of Margaret’s travels by going to her website. https://www.tinkerbelltalks.com/
Dennis Rush (Howie Pruitt/Williams) spent the week at Mayberry Days visiting fans, signing autographs, and just smiling. He enjoyed his time in Mount Airy and was like a kid in a candy store. His smile during the entire week of Mayberry Days never left his face and fans responded with the same joy. Dennis will also be sailing with the folks on the Cruise to Mayberry 18 leaving New Orleans for the Western Caribbean October 27th and returning November 1st.
Keith Thibodeaux (Johnny Paul) was once again with fans at Mayberry Days. He played the drums for “Elvis,” signed autographs, took photos and just plain visited with the good folks of Mayberry. He staying busy performing as the drummer for David and the Giants, the Christian Rock band who released the album “See You There” back in May. We’d mentioned that before but it should be restated that the album features three songs written and sung by Keith.

Rodney Dillard (guitar playing Darling boy) played to a sold out playhouse during Mayberry Days. His voice is as amazing as ever and he, wife Beverly and the Dillard Band played songs from their new album Songs that made Charlene Cry. Rodney is staying as busy as he wants but a man that has an honorary doctorate and is in three different music hall of fames deserves to be able to make his own schedule. He may have other events coming up, so be watching his The Dillards Facebook page, but Weaver’s knows he has a completely FREE show coming up on Saturday November 8th (1 pm ET) at the Alapaha Station Celebration in Alapaha, Ga. so attend if you can.
The Mayberry community is proud to have “The Darlings” as part of the family and offer our congratulations to Rodney. Drop by RodneyDillard.tv to follow his most current activities.
That’s all the cast & crew news Weaver’s has been able to dig up for Sep/Nov issue. If you come across cast news between issues, we’ would love for you to share it with us here at Weaver’s. You could be given credit as a “roving reporter.” Otherwise, Weaver’s will continue to comb the web for News of Cast & Crew and do the best we can to find the news fit to “print.”

****Chapter News ****
We’re going to go light on the chapter news this issue because there were MANY chapters present at Mayberry Days with members who had a wonderful time. Unlike the Presiding Goober, Emeritus of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC), “Floyd” can’t remember all the chapter names associated with everyone attending the event. Jim Clark was always so good at making a list of chapters that he spotted walking around town. Allan “Floyd” Newsome (the current editor for this newsletter) is not as skilled. So, leave it to say that there were chapters represented from across the country and it was great to see their members in “The Mecca of Mayberry,” Andy’s home town Mount Airy, N.C.
Weaver’s didn’t receive any reports from Chapters since the July/Aug edition so this is all we have for you this issue.
Please submit an official report from your chapter for inclusion in the Dec/Jan issue of Weaver’s Newsletter. Weaver’s encourages all TAGSRWC chapters to send in their reports so we can share your fun with others .
###
****Chapter Update ****
Our total number of chapters started since TAGSRWC was founded in 1979 has increased by 1 since our last issue with the total number of chapters now at 1,492! It had been a while since a new chapter had been official formed so we’re happy to welcome our newest chapter:
Chapter Name | Location |
---|---|
The High Fifes | Carthage, Tenn. |
Starting a chapter of TAGSRWC is still just as easy as it was four decades ago. You simply pick a name that hasn’t previously been selected by another group. (You can check the searchable list of chapter names already taken at www.iMayberry.com.) Then submit your chapter’s name with your location and a list of your founding members by e-mail to Goober@imayberry.com. That’s all it takes!
Whether or not you start or join a local chapter, you can always join our online “Who’s Been Messin’ Up the Bulletin Board?” chapter or any of several exclusively online chapters on Facebook (see Mayberry on the Web below).
Andy Griffith Show Squad Car 1964– $60.00
BACK IN STOCK
after being out of stock for a few years
Mr. Weaver has been asked if there was a Mayberry patrol car collectable that is larger scale than the “hot wheels” size Johnny Lightning replica and we finally found one.
The car is Die-Cast metal body and chassis with amazing detail. This limited edition collectable is 1:43 scale (about 5.5 inches by 2.5 inches) and comes with a nice clear plastic display case. The Mayberry Squad Car design is a wonderful addition to your Mayberry collection. The car is a 1964 Ford Galaxie.
Mayberry Patrol Car Emblem Car Coaster & Keychain – $6.00-$10.00
These sandstone car coasters with the Mayberry Patrol Car Emblem printed on the top side will look great in your cup holder and absorb the condensation. I’m sure Barney would have loved these in the patrol car….if it had cup holders.
The design is the one used on the driver and passenger doors of the Mayberry squad cars.
This keychain features the Mayberry Patrol Car Emblem design like the one seen on on the driver and passenger doors of the Mayberry squad cars.
The Round PolyLeather (a form of synthetic leather) Keychain has a diameter of 2″.
*** Mayberry Injuries Quiz (Part 2)***
This trivia is part 2 of 2 “injuries” trivia provided by Paul Mulik of the “Hear that, Boys? No Yelling at the Table” Chapter (Joplin, Mo.). Our thanks to Paul for the submission. Go back to the last issue if you missed part 1 of this quiz.
- After Andy came into the drugstore to get some sulfa powder, the ladies of Mayberry spread a rumor that Barney Fife had shot himself in the chest. What REALLY happened to him?
- Who injured their hip when they fell at the bowling alley?
- How did Andy injure his left wrist?
- Who invented a special baseball pitch after suffering a broken middle finger?
- What was this special pitch called by the inventor?
Weaver’s will post the correct answers in the “Post Note” section at the end of this issue of Weaver’s Newsletter.

“Two Chairs, No Waiting” is our weekly podcast of TAGS news, interviews and pretty much whatever’s happening in and around Mayberry. It’s hosted by Allan Newsome.
There’s a new episode every Tuesday (and you can watch and listen during live recording of the show on Monday evenings at 8pm ET @ live.twochairsnowaiting.com ). As of this week, there have been 858 episodes of Two Chairs since Allan launched the podcast over 16 years ago, in October 2008. Past episodes are in an online Archives in case you want to listen to or view the YouTube video installments you’ve missed. We’re sure you can find at least a few episodes you’d enjoy out of all those that are available. OH….they are all FREE!
Take some time to look around the main Mayberry Podcasts (https://iMayberry.com/podcaasts) website for various other links, including one for another outstanding Mayberry-related podcast: “Burke on Mayberry“ (hosted by TAGSRWC’s Kevin Burke since 2008). There are also links for the Mayberry Devotional hosted by Brian Rose and for the Mayberry Bible Study Podcast that are no longer being produced but the content remains “evergreen.”

Colonel Harvey’s Indian Elixir Flask – $9.00
Weaver’s has been working with traveling salesman, Colonel Harvey, to bring you this stainless steel hip flask branded with the labeling for the Colonel’s elixir. The elixir is sold separately at your favorite local “tonic” store but you can enjoy displaying the flask on your shelves. Otis told Mr. Weaver that he’d take two.
You may not need to purchase the actual elixir unless you are feeling tired and run down. Dragging yourself out of bed in the morning or feel that life seem hardly worth living. Then friends, you may need the elixir. Otherwise, this flask may lift your spirit by at least 85%.
Flask comes with a funnel to aid in filling with your choice of tonic.
Size: 4.8″ x 3.7″ – 8 oz. – Stainless Steel
NOTE: Label may not survive in high quality if it gets very wet. (It may smear or become stained.)
Mayberry Hotel Keychain – $4.00
Jason, the reservations clerk over at the Mayberry Hotel, had some extra key tags for room 216 and made them available here at Weaver’s. You might remember that Jason attempted to give Ed Sawyer the key to room 209 but Ed swiftly declines that room because “that’s the room Wilbur Hennessy got drunk in and fell out the window“.
Ed then requested room 216 because it had been freshly painted green (although green was not Ed’s favorite color).
This room 216 key tag would make a great keychain for use or display in your collection.
The keychain comes with a 4 in “ball chain” for easy addition of any key you might like to add.
Size: 3.5″ x 1.75″
**** Mayberry Man ****
After almost 4 years, Weaver’s Newsletter finally feels like it time to step into the topic of the Mayberry Man movie and Mayberry Man: The Series (Season 1). Speaking as myself, Allan, I haven’t wanted to look like I was tooting my own horn by talking too much about Mayberry Man but, well, it is time.
For those that may not know, the Mayberry Man movie is about an arrogant movie star (Chris Stone played by Brett Varvel) who is busted for speeding in a small southern town and the judge sentences him to attend Mayberry Fest: a weeklong festival celebrating The Andy Griffith Show. If Mayberry Fest is a new event for you it’s because it was made up just for the movie. It is based upon Mayberry Days® with some aspects of other Mayberry events like Mayberry in the Midwest rolled in. Since Mayberry Days® is a trademarked name, the movie (and later the series) chose not to use that name nor the name of any other “real world” event.
It’s been said many times but Mayberry Man is not an attempt to recreate The Andy Griffith Show but rather to capture the feeling fans get with viewing the Mayberry we’ve known for 65 years. The writer/director, Stark, and producer, Cort, are the sons of actor Hoke Howell who appeared on two episodes of The Andy Griffith Show as Charlene Darling’s husband, Dud. Stark and Cort hold The Andy Griffith Show in a special place in their hearts so each of them wanted to be faithful to the show when making Mayberry Man. They desired to keep the family friendly atmosphere of The Andy Griffith Show and protect the movie from the influence of “Hollywood.” The entire movie was crowd funded by us, the fans of The Andy Griffith Show which allowed the Howells to make sure their vision was retained in a pure, wholesome way.
The movie was filmed during the heart of the COVID pandemic so there were challenges that occurred while filming but we’ve always been happy to report that no one got sick from the movie set.
Mayberry Man was released in 2021 and those who donated to the crowdfunding received their rewards which included things like appearing as an extra, speaking roles, producer credits, names in the credits, and many other ways their contributions were acknowledged. The movie turned out very well and it’s something those of us involved are certainly proud to have been a part.
If you have attended any of the Mayberry events like Mayberry Days®, Mayberry in the Midwest, or the Mayberry/Lucy Festival you will see fellow Mayberry fans who attend those event as well as the Mayberry tribute artist who entertain at those festivals. It’s so fun to see my friends and Mayberry family on the screen when I watch the movie and season one of the series.

I realize the Mayberry Man projects might not be everyone’s cup of tea but I encourage you to give it a watch if you haven’t. The movie does have a “Hallmark” movie feel to it. Some have said it’s similar in feel to the Michael J. Fox movie “Doc Hollywood.” One thing I can say for certain, you can watch the movie and the series with your entire family without having to worry about what you might be exposed to.
Mayberry Man the movie can be watched FREE on Amazon Prime Video, TubiTV, YouTube (EncourageTV channel), and other streaming services. You can also get a DVD (signed by “Floyd,” if you’d like) at WeaversDepartmentStore.com.
Mayberry Man: The Series (season 1) can be watched for FREE after October 3, 2025 on Amazon Prime Video, TubiTV, The Roku Channel, and YouTube (EncourageTV channel). If you would like a DVD (signed by “Floyd” if you choose) you’ll find them at WeaversDepartmentStore.com.

**** Culture Time ****
Now for a little culture. I mean, who can ever get enough culture. This issue we have a poem submitted by Barney tribute artist, Ronnie Felker. Ronnie has been visiting with folks at Mayberry events for years and even owns a Mayberry patrol car of his very own.
Mayberry Days
In a little town in Mount Airy,
North Carolina lived a young man
named Andy who enjoyed a southern simple life,
Who shared his love for music and acting
and brought smiles instead of strife.
Not knowing one day he would share
to the world this simple southern life,
In a TV show as Sheriff Andy Taylor
with a deputy called Barney Fife.
In a fictional southern town called
Mayberry, North Carolina
it came to life every week,
And before you knew it,
The Andy Griffith Show was climbing to it’s peak.
With characters like Gomer, Goober, Floyd, Otis ,ErnestT.,
Aunt Bee, Opie and so much more,
Thè actors brought to life each week,
life’s lessons ,humor and laughter,
that no one could ignore.
From October 3rd 1960 to April 1st 1968
the show produced 249 episodes
in it’s own special way,
And it’s still being watched by millions on TV
until this very day.
But every year in Mount Airy,
North Carolina the last week in September,
You can go to Mayberry Days
In Andy’s hometown to celebrate the show we love
and will always remember.
Go if you want to meet some special people
that love characters like Sheriff Andy
and Deputy Barney Fife.
But be careful you may make friends
that will last you all your life.

Ronnie Felker
